Ant Haiku

In class we did some non-fiction reading and research about "ants".  We learned how to use an encyclopedia as a research tool.  Then we wrote haiku poems about ants. Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry that is written in three lines using only 17 syllables.  It isn't very easy to do.  We clapped out a lot of different variations for each line until we could make them work!

Missing Factor Game

Our class has been busy learning their multiplication facts!  We are also working on related problems (sometimes referred to as fact families).  Today we played a game using array cards to find the missing factor in a multiplication or division problem.   We are learning how multiplication and division are related.
The (above) top array card show the following number sentences.
4 x 10 = 40
10 x 4 = 40
40 divided by 10 = 4
40 divided by 4 = 10
What about the bottom one?  How can use  use multiplication to help you divide?
Matthew solves a problem.

Mary shares her division sentence with her group.
