Choosing a "Just Right" Book

Choosing a book with your child….

In third grade we talk about finding a “Just Right” book.  This is a book that is manageable for your child without being too easy or too hard.  It is not a “vacation book” which is easier to read and may be a well loved favorite.  It is also not a “challenge book” that is too difficult for your child to manage on his/her own independently at this time.

Please encourage age appropriate reading at home. Even if your child is reading at or above grade level, it does not mean that the content of advanced level books will be a good match.

If you are unsure about the level of a book, check out the Scholastic Book Wizard.  It will easily show you the reading level and text difficulty of any book your child is looking to read.
